Location Update
Until we find another location:
We will move our Union Station services to Ebenezers Coffeehouse. The service times will remain the same: 9am, 10:15am, and 11:45am. During the 9am service, the nursery and limited children’s ministry will be provided. Please inform NCCers who are not here this weekend, and encourage them to watch the webcast at www.theaterchurch.com . There will be ushers and signs at the movie theaters for the next few weeks to let people know who do not get the news.
Directions and other information about our Ebenezers Coffeehouse location can be found here!
Union Station - What Happened!?
Thirteen years ago God opened an amazing door of opportunity and we started meeting in the movie theaters at Union Station. This week we were informed that Union Station management is shutting down the theaters. We’ve heard rumors over the past two years to this effect. And I personally talked with the President of Phoenix Theaters on multiple occasions to see if there was any truth to those rumors. He assured me that they had every intention of fulfilling their five year lease. Long story short, Union Station management has decided to revoke their lease prematurely and immediately. I write these words with a degree of disbelief, but this weekend (Oct 11th, 2009) will be our last Sunday meeting at Union Station.
Before I talk about our plan, let me process some of those feelings. There is certainly a degree of sadness amongst our staff. And we’re going through a grieving process. I think that is normal and natural because Union Station has been a special place for us as a church. It’s where God took a ragtag group of people and an unseasoned pastor and turned us into a church. We started out in the smallest theater, grew to multiple theaters, and now to five locations. I’m sad to say goodbye to Union, but I’m filled with gratitude for what the Lord has done during our tenure there. I’m also grateful that we’re a multi-site church and have a coffeehouse a block from Union. That certainly helps us adapt and adjust.
Here is what I know for sure: God is in control. He is the God who opens and closes doors—Relevation 3:7. And He opens and closes them for a reason. I’m absolutely confident that God is setting us up for something. We don’t know what that is yet. And I have plenty of unanswered questions. But I genuinely anticipate what is next. This is going to be an incredible season of growth for us individually and corporately. It’s hard to explain, but I can’t wait to see how God redeems this for His purposes!
We have seen God do some amazing things at Union Station and I wanted to personally thank you for your investment in NCC. Remember, the church is not a building. We are the church. And God is going to lead us through this.
